The Broadland Business Park Norfolk Youth Rugby Cup and Plate finals, held on Sunday 7th May at Holt RFC on the north Norfolk coast, saw outstanding performances by youth teams representing rugby clubs from throughout the county.

In the Cup competition, a forwards dominated West Norfolk (pictured) won the silverware 40-20 against Wymondham at under 16 level, with hosts Holt running out 33-0 winners in the under 15s game against Wymondham and, in a gripping under 14 encounter, Wymondham and North Walsham deservedly shared the honours with just one converted try apiece.

The Plate competition saw Holt under 16s beat their Diss counterparts 38-12, Norwich under 15s winning 37-17 against North Walsham and Holt under 14s overhauling Diss 31-5.

This is the third year running that Broadland Business Park has sponsored Norfolk Youth Rugby. Adam Smith, Fund Manager and Director of the Park’s owners, Lothbury Investment Management, is a former player at club and county level and a keen supporter of the game.  He says: “This was a great day of junior rugby and both Holt and Norfolk RFU are to be congratulated for staging such a successful event.

“Most praise, of course, must go to the players from a wide range of Norfolk clubs who qualified for the finals and put on a very impressive display of flowing rugby on the day, and to the players from the teams who competed for a place in the finals throughout the season. Norfolk punches well above its weight in terms of the talented rugby players that its clubs produce and there can be little doubt that some of tomorrow’s rugby stars were seen in action at this year’s finals.”

Highlights of the finals are being broadcast locally on Mustard TV and are available online on the Norfolk Now YouTube channel.
