The new Hungry Horse restaurant and pub due to open on Broadland Business Park in the New Year will be called The Fieldfare after the pub chain ran a competition for it to be named by local residents.

In October, Hungry Horse asked residents what they would like the new pub to be called and a number of suggestions were received, including the Norwich Nag and even the Partridge Arms.

However, the winning name was chosen as The Fieldfare, which was suggested by Jennie Layton of Thorpe St Andrew who will receive a £100 gift voucher, which can be used in the pub when it opens.

Jennie put forward the suggestion of The Fieldfare because of memories she had of doing cross country runs near to the site of the pub when she was at school. She said: “Whenever we went out running there were always fieldfare birds which flew up in the sky as we ran past the trees.

Matt Brown, business unit director for Hungry Horse, said: “I would like to thank everyone who sent in their suggestions to us. We wanted to ensure our name reflects the local area, which is why we wanted it to be decided by our future customers. We are really pleased with the name we have and are very excited to get the doors of The Fieldfare open and bring our fun, great value and family friendly pub to Norwich.”
